Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president, and she is also the most powerful female officer in American history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
